Ford Fathom Questions From St. Louis Electric Truck Shoppers
What is the Ford Fathom?
Fathom is Ford's new midsize electric pickup and the first vehicle built on its Universal EV Platform. Ford designed it to compete in the affordable EV market, with a five seat cabin, a bed and a front trunk. It is a new nameplate, not a version of an existing Ford, and it is not on sale yet. Ford has announced that preorders open in early 2027, though timing can change.
Is the Ford Fathom a truck or an SUV?
It is a pickup. Ford describes Fathom as a midsize four door electric truck with a bed out back and a frunk up front for extra storage. Ford also projects more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, so the cabin is meant to feel roomy for five adults. Think of it as a smaller electric pickup that can also handle everyday family driving.
How much will the Ford Fathom cost?
Ford has announced a starting MSRP of $28,350 for the model with the standard range battery. That figure does not include destination and delivery, taxes, title, registration or dealer fees. Ford has not released pricing for other versions yet, and pricing and timing can change before launch. When final pricing is out, we will show it on our site and walk you through the numbers.
When can I preorder a Ford Fathom in St. Louis?
Ford has announced that Fathom preorders begin in early 2027, and that timing can change. Ford has not published a delivery date, so timing for the first trucks reaching customers is still to be confirmed. Until preorders open, the way to get in line with Dave Sinclair Ford is to request a preorder invite through the form on this page so our team can contact you as soon as Ford opens ordering.
How does the preorder invite at Dave Sinclair Ford work?
You fill out the short invite form on this page with your contact information. It does not cost anything and it does not lock in a price or a build. It puts you on our list so a member of our sales team reaches out when Ford opens Fathom preorders and when new details like trims or range come out. You can then decide whether to place a preorder through our store.
What is the range of the Ford Fathom?
Ford has not released it yet. Ford's own Fathom page states that EPA estimated range figures are not yet available, and battery size and charging times have not been announced either. Ford has said the platform uses lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, prismatic battery cells. We will not guess at a number here, and we will update this page once Ford publishes official figures.
How many people does the Ford Fathom seat?
Ford says Fathom seats five adults. Ford also projects that it will have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, which is a big claim for a midsize pickup and suggests a cabin aimed at families and commuters as much as work use. Seat materials, cargo dimensions and interior options by trim have not been released yet.
Will the Ford Fathom have BlueCruise hands free driving?
Ford says every Fathom will be BlueCruise capable, with next generation BlueCruise hardware standard. Once activated, BlueCruise allows hands free driving on prequalified highway sections Ford calls Blue Zones, while you keep your eyes on the road. Ford also says it works with Apple Maps navigation. Activation and plan details for Fathom have not been announced, so we will share them when Ford does.
What technology has Ford announced for the Fathom?
Ford lists a large touchscreen with navigation powered by Apple Maps, Digital Key so your phone can act as the key, and remote features through the Ford app. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is included. Ford has also announced bidirectional power capability. Ford has not yet released full feature lists by trim, so expect more details closer to preorders.
What does bidirectional power capability mean on the Fathom?
In general, bidirectional power means the battery can send electricity out, not only take it in. Ford has said Fathom has this capability, but it has not published how it will work, what equipment is needed or what it can power. Once Ford explains the details, our team can walk you through how it might fit your home or job site setup in St. Louis.
Where will the Ford Fathom be built?
Ford has said its midsize electric truck on the Universal EV Platform will be assembled at Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, and that the LFP battery cells for it will come from BlueOval Battery Park Michigan. That keeps assembly within a day's drive of St. Louis. Ford has also talked about a new production approach for the platform that uses fewer parts than a typical vehicle.
Should I wait for the Fathom or buy a Maverick or Mach-E now?
It depends on when you need a vehicle. If your current car is fine for another year or more, getting a preorder invite costs nothing. If you need something sooner, the Maverick gives you a compact pickup with a hybrid option, and the Mustang Mach-E is an all electric SUV available today. We are happy to lay out both paths honestly.
Can I trade in my current vehicle toward a Fathom?
Yes, once preorders open and your Fathom is on its way, your trade can go toward the purchase. Trade values change over time, so a quote today will not hold until delivery, but our online trade value tool gives you a useful starting point now for planning. We confirm the final number when the Fathom arrives and we inspect your vehicle at the store.
